What do you think? is it fair that the world’s richest people are paying little amount in tax? Which is in the real-time being considered as one of many what do you think? Is it fair that the world’s richest people are paying little amount in tax? Which is in real-time being considered as one of many reasons for extreme inequality? All these people who can contribute with so much of their wealth are actually contributing with so little proportion of their vast wealth? These are a few of those questions motivating US Democratic Senator Ron Wyden, who is affirmed and had called for new taxes especially on billionaires.
Recently, this weekend for the world’s richest man turned out more interesting with Musk’s crude tweet, who did not get an answer when was polling the internet on the issue of wealth.
Last Saturday, Musk wanted his 63 million Twitter followers to tell him either he sold 10 percent of his Tesla stock or not? This question was very important as Musk owns near around of 17 percent Tesla stock, Musk is also not being taxed on his part of the main source from the vast assets in Tesla, worth more than $200 billion. This was the core reason behind Wyden and other politicians are arguing and want to change with an annual tax plan to the unsold assets especially Musk has in Tesla Stocks. Although, Wyden’s proposal has been rejected, which makes Musk the wealthiest citizen of the United States over other 700 billionaires.
Musk Tweeted: “I do not take a cash salary or bonus from anywhere. I only have stock, thus the only way for me to pay taxes personally is to sell stock.”
However; Musk’s followers on Twitter were clear on he should sell his stock with polling results 57.9 percent from 3.5 million participating votes saying “yes” during his conducted poll on Twitter Polls. In other words, we can consider that his followers think clearly that he should start paying more taxes on his total wealth. (Interestingly, due to how Musk’s Tesla stock options are structured, he’s likely due to a sizable tax bill regardless of the outcome of any Twitter poll.)
Musk promised to fulfill as poll results comes out, but since the polling finished and results are here, he didn’t bother to comment directly on the poll’s outcome. But, What Musk is doing, just taking Wyden’s Tweet seriously and focusing only on Senator’s point in arguing off mode.
“Whether or not the world’s wealthiest man pays any taxes at all shouldn’t depend on the results of a Twitter poll.”
